It’s in! I picked it up on Saturday after a short 5 mile test ride on the bike path nearby. The weatherman is promising a high 40 degree temp on Wednesday so I should be able to ride it on the hilly terrain nearby. The weather is cooperating in support of my ride :-), or at least training for it! Life is indeed good!

The New Bike
Monday, January 30th, 2012Training Lessons (How NOT to exit the gym after a workout!)
Friday, January 27th, 2012I started off my week in a manner which I do NOT recommend to anyone in training. I have never been good about keeping myself hydrated through a day, but my Monday experience taught me a lesson — keep hydrated.
It seems that after a great workout at the gym Monday morning, on my way out of the locker room I fainted as the result of dehydration, result — a non-graceful exit from the gym guided on a stretcher by the EMT responders. The resultant one night stand at the hospital provided me with ample time to think about hydration :-), and the “shoulds” that I need to keep in mind a I train for that Pan-Mass Challenge ride in August.
The 2012 PMC
Wednesday, January 11th, 2012The time is approaching! January 17th begins open registration for riders of the Pan-Mass Challenge. In my last post I wrote about cheering on riders as they rode past my home, thinking of “someday” riding myself, but not making the sacrifices necessary in order to do so. I mused “Will this coming year be the year I make it happen?”.
The answer is YES! I have ordered my new road bike, purchased “tights” for winter riding, been at the gym working out 3 – 5 days per week over the last month, and successfully ridden my mountain bike over the hilly terrain between Douglas, Ma and Thompson, CT., a not really easy short 15 mile ride — but a great place to start.
If you’re reading this, chances are that you have heard me talk about doing this ride — I’m really looking forward to the challenge!
